Encaustics and Sculpture

While studying sculpture during my arts degree I found the medium opens up to many processes. Sculpture adds another dimension to my painting. It is intriguing, exciting and challenging. I tell stories through the combination of  hot wax, organic materials, fabrics, metal and resin. I want my sculptures to have the same atmospheric qualities as my paintings, capturing the spiritual elements and the hidden mysteries in nature.

In modern times encaustic process is referred to as Painting with Fire, but this form
of art goes back to ancient Rome and Egypt. Burial portraits and religious iconic paintings are still surviving  to this day. I create my encaustic work using ethical and sustainable practices ensuring longevity of the outcome for a discerning art buyer.

Hybrid Series
No Animals Were Harmed
34cm H x 39 cm W x 39cm D

My Hybrid sculpture series depicts how human
engineering has altered plants and animals often
to the detriment of the species. No Animals Were
Harmed is made from found objects, wax, organic
materials, feathers, and metal.

‘Hyrise’ is reminiscent of visiting abandoned outback towns and farms and observing discarded objects that are quickly taken over by the elements. Nature reclaims old water tanks, which become oversized pots sprouting scrubs and trees that aim for the sky as they struggle to survive.

From the Hybrid sculpture series; Creatures Great and Small is made from found wood, wax, organic materials, feathers, and metal.
